In Chinese Wisdom we believe that circulation is the base line to good health. A good flow of circulation is how we deliver qi, oxygen and nutrients around the body and clear stagnation. In Chinese Medicine stimulation of the skin has been used as a way to take care of our internal organs and restore balance in the body. This is where the Seven Star Hammer comes in.

The dermal hammer is a versatile tool that has been used in Chinese medicine for thousands of years. I love this tool as it is the perfect way to supercharge your circulation, it brings all the blood to the surface of the skin and allows toxins to exit the body.

Seven Star needling, is a technique that uses a specially designed small plastic hammer with seven small needle tips. Like acupuncture needles, these are very fine, small needles and the surface area of the hammer prevents them from penetrating deeply into the skin.

Dermal hammering is effective for releasing heat and chronic stagnation of underlying areas and is especially famous for treating hair loss. Benefits include:

  • Increasing collagen production
  • Reducing scarring from acne
  • Reducing fine lines and wrinkles
  • Treating alopecia
  • Easing headaches

The key to using this dermal hammer effectively is to create a nice and flowing hand movement so that the hammer smoothly hits the skin. I use mine all the time on my skin and especially my hair, you can even use it with hair extensions.

Recommended by the wonderful Anna Murphy in her book Destination Fabulous, 7 Star Needling is far less expensive than tweakments.

It’s versatile, effective and really easy to use - I call this microdermabrasion plus.

How to use:

  1. Prepare your skin by removing makeup and gently cleansing the face.
  2. Take your hammer and gently tap over your skin or the affected area vertically, horizontally, and diagonally, doing this twice over your cheeks, forehead, chin, lips, and neck. There’s no need to press too hard or put yourself in pain, apply as much pressure as you can comfortably tolerate.
  3. Apply serum after using.

The hammer is used to stimulate acupuncture points by gently tapping; the treatment can be used to help move stagnant energy in the body, or to calm the mind.

When in use, these needles create micro-injuries on the skin, which in turn sends collagen and elastin production into overdrive to compensate as it heals leaving your complexion tighter and plumper than it was beforehand. For this benefit, tap gently all over the face, avoiding the eyes and lips using wrist-force, then lifting from the skin immediately.

Tap all over the top of the head. Use the little dermal needles to tap the skin and stimulate blood flow to the affected area, in this case the scalp to encourage hair growth.

If you are suffering with joint pain, scars or varicose veins, gently tap the seven star hammer on the area. Please note: never use it on any open wounds.

These needles are used to stimulate acupuncture points, channels or meridians. Depending on the intensity of the treatment, the skin is reddened to different degrees and stronger tapping can result in bleeding.

Can I combine it with other treatments?

Yes! But always consult a doctor as everyone has very individual and sometimes complex health issues. Chinese medicine often works hand in hand with Western medicine and complements the healing process.
