How to adapt to Autumn

To help you transition to Autumn, our founder Katie Brindle has shared her favourite seasonal rituals that nourish from the inside out, helping you let go, recharge and feel more...

A change in seasons is the perfect moment to check in with your body and create small rituals that support balance, immunity and ease.

From switching your movement, to seasonal eating and more sleep, these practices are about working with the season rather than against it. Transitioning from Summer to Autumn also means new self-care rituals, making it the perfect time to keep both your skin and energy vibrant as the weather changes.

To help you transition, our founder Katie Brindle has shared her favourite seasonal rituals that nourish from the inside out, helping you let go, recharge and feel more aligned.

Facial Brushing

The temperature dropping can cause a dull, dry complexion. This is where the Facial Brush comes in. The perfect skin revitaliser, facial brushing increases circulation to boost the natural flow of lymph, remove dead skin cells and clear out toxins. In the words of Katie “It takes five years off my skin”.

Enhance your diet

In Chinese Medicine honey is known for its ability to support your Lungs and alleviate dryness and coughs. Katie recommends enjoying it as a tea with lemon and ginger, or with warm pear for breakfast.

Snow fungus or Tremella mushroom is a really powerful supplement at this time of year as it cools and hydrates your body from the inside to soothe and moisten your Lungs. Try adding it to smoothies or cooled boiled water to make tea.

Body sculpting

Regular body sculpting not only contours, smooths and tightens the body. This power tool also massages your fascia, which is the connective tissue that wraps and links every muscle, organ and nerve. Helping keep your fascia smooth improves the flow of lymph to give your immune system the boost it needs.

Wear slippers or warm socks

If you do one thing this Autumn and Winter, make sure your feet don't get cold. In Chinese medicine, cold extremities mean we can become more vulnerable to illness. Try to always wear slippers at home and warm socks when you’re out, even when the sun is shining.

Gua Sha

Autumn is a yin time of year, so regular gua sha can help your body transition into the new season. It’s also been proven to improve microcirculation by up to 400% to support lymphatic drainage for a glow like never before. The serrated edge on the Jade Gua Sha stimulates collagen and elastin production further, helping to reduce puffiness, minimise the appearance of wrinkles and improve skin elasticity.

Wear a scarf

This is the time of year that we hit the first wave of colds, so a scarf is handy for neck protection. Remember, you do not want to let coldness get into your body as this can cause illness to develop.

A way of looking at it is that in Chinese medicine, the back of your neck is seen as an entrance where wind and cold sneak in and target your immune system. A scarf is like closing that door to keep warmth in and protect your chest and sinuses.

Tapping

Bamboo tapping is one of the simplest yet most powerful practices for whole-body health. At this time of year, it’s especially important for strengthening immunity.

You can either use the Bamboo Body Tapper for an instant circulation boost and full body massage. Or try the Face Tapper for a gentle wake up for the face if your skin is feeling puffy and dull.

Journalling

Journalling is one of the best ways to let go, which is essential in Autumn. Doing this daily provides a meaningful space to reflect on the day, releasing any trapped or negative energy onto the pages. It helps answer vital questions about experiences: why they happened and what lessons they hold. Start by writing down one thing you’re grateful for each day, then reflect on this the next.

Embrace slowness

As the nights draw in, try to go to bed earlier to get more sleep. Ideally be in bed by 10pm so your body can replenish over night. This also isn’t the time of year for sweaty, high-impact exercise, swap this for walking, qigong or Pilates to prepare your body for Winter.

Which of these rituals are you most drawn to right now? It’s time to embrace the power of seasonal self-care.
