In Chinese mythology, Kuan Yin is the goddess of mercy and considered to be the physical embodiment of compassion. Kuan Yin is known by many different names: Kannon in Japan, Quan Am in Vietnam and Guan Yin in Malaysia, for example. In all traditions the name means, the one who hears the cries of the world.
