We’re constantly being told to meditate, but what if you just can’t switch off your brain? Chinese practitioner Katie Brindle has an easier form of the practice to try – something she calls “rescue breath” and just takes a minute to do. “Breathe out to expel air three times through the nose, then take five deep breaths. As you exhale, imagine directing a smile into the lower abdomen. It tricks the brain into concentrating on the breath, rather than worrying about the day ahead.”
